About Me

Hey! I'm Elysse 👋

Hi, I’m Elysse — a writer, mental health advocate, and future therapist living in Honolulu with my cat (and partner in everything), Rue.

I’ve had OCD for as long as I can remember, but I spent over 20 years without a diagnosis or language to explain what I was going through. Once I finally got answers, I made it my mission to share what OCD really looks like — beyond the stereotypes about cleaning and order — and to help others feel less alone in their own struggles.

These days, you’ll mostly find me hanging out on Instagram at @ocd.or.just.me, where I share honest, evidence-based posts about OCD and anxiety with a community that’s growing every day. I’m also working toward my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling so I can keep bridging lived experience with clinical training — because both sides of the story matter.

Outside of all that? I’m usually out bodyboarding in the ocean, hiking somewhere green, crocheting on my lanai, or just curled up with Rue and a good book. The quiet, simple moments are my favorite, and they’re what remind me why this work matters: everyone deserves the chance to understand their mental health and live fully, without stigma holding them back.

OCD Exposed: 10 Myths & Misconceptions About Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

My debut book!

OCD Exposed: 10 Myths & Misconceptions About Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is my debut book written to shatter the stereotypes about OCD.

It’s not just about handwashing or being “neat.” It’s a complex, often painful condition that deserves to be seen for what it truly is.

I wrote this book because I lived it. After more than twenty years undiagnosed, I know the harm misinformation and silence can cause. Each myth I tackle is one I’ve seen keep people stuck in shame and confusion.

Through research, personal experience, and real stories, this book replaces harmful myths with truth — inviting readers to move past stereotypes, see OCD clearly, and meet those who live with it with empathy.

Whether you’re living with OCD, love someone who does, or simply want to understand mental health better, this book was written to open eyes and change the conversation.
